The Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is a beetle native to Asia that is invasive to the North American ash tree species. It was first discovered in Michigan in 2002 and is expected to kill all of the 8.7 billion ash trees in North America as well as cause major economic damage.  The larvae feed on the bark layer which kills the tree by starving it of water and nutrients.

The EAB scourge is predicted to last 8-12 years with a 5000% increase of infected trees every year until no ash trees remain and the EAB dies out.

Since the EAB only feeds on the bark layer of the tree, the rest of the woodgrain throughout the tree remains untouched allowing it to continue featuring it's unique grain and structural capabilities.
